Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has criticised Uefa for a social media tribute to Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid that failed to mention the circumstances of his death.
According to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), Obeid was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli strike while waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip.
The 41 year old, nicknamed the “Pele of Palestinian football” by the PFA, netted over 100 goals during his career, including two in 24 appearances for the national team.In a Friday post on X, Uefa wrote: “Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the ‘Palestinian Pele’. “A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”
