Viral Cowboy Boot Dance Sparks a New Wave in Black Culture

When Tre Little stepped out in cowboy boots and hit a smooth two step at the BET Awards preshow this summer, it was more than just a performance, it was the spark of a cultural wave.

Teaming up with southern soul singer 803Fresh, Little showcased the viral anthem “Boots on the Ground,” a trail ride inspired track whose signature dance has taken over African American gatherings nationwide.

The moves, complete with the sharp rhythm of fan clacks, actually began during a casual lunch break. But once Little uploaded the routine to TikTok, he woke up to 100,000 views overnight, instantly turning him into a sought after instructor now leading line dance classes across the country. “It’s bringing people together to do a dance and share laughter,” he explained.

That spirit of connection is exactly why line dancing continues to thrive, says Cupid, the Louisiana artist who gave the world the timeless 2007 hit “Cupid Shuffle.”
