Kenyan Court Orders Arrest of British Man Over 2012 Murder of Agnes Wanjiru

A Kenyan high court has directed the arrest of a British citizen accused of killing a young woman near a British army training base in central Kenya 13 years ago, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The remains of 21 year old Agnes Wanjiru were discovered in a septic tank in April 2012 in Nanyuki, north of Mt. Kenya, just weeks after witnesses reported seeing her leave a bar with a group of British soldiers.

In its ruling, the Nairobi court ordered the suspect’s arrest, noting that he is currently in Britain. However, the court withheld his name, offering no explanation for the unusual decision. Typically, the identities of murder suspects are made public in Kenya.

Prosecutors, in a press release, announced that extradition proceedings will now be launched.

The ruling has once again cast a spotlight on the long running case, with Wanjiru’s family telling The Associated Press on Tuesday that they have waited “too long” for justice but remain hopeful it is finally on the way.
