Giant Pumpkin Smashes Russian Record at 969 Kilos

A farmer in Russia has broken his own national record by harvesting the country’s heaviest pumpkin to date, weighing an astonishing 969 kilos.

The grower, Alexander Chusov, credited the enormous growth to months of careful planning and scientific precision. “It all begins with the right seeds, giant pumpkins grow from giant seeds,” Chusov said. “From warming the soil to balanced nutrition, every step is crucial.”

The colossal pumpkin stole the spotlight at Russia’s giant vegetable growing contest, which attracted more than 3,000 participants nationwide.

Yet Chusov’s entry was not the only big sized plant. A 144 kilo watermelon and a 73 kilo courgette also impressed the audience.

Event organiser Daria Yermilova compared the competition to elite athletics: “It’s like clocking a swim time. Of course, you can grow for fun, but this is a long term sport. You commit six months of focus and effort.”The record breaking vegetables are now set to be displayed at Moscow’s historic Apothecary Garden, giving the public a chance to marvel at these extraordinary achievements in farming.
