A tragic scene unfolded Sunday in Michigan when a gunman opened fire inside a Mormon church, killing two people and injuring several others before setting the building ablaze, authorities confirmed.
Police said the attacker, a 40 year old man from a nearby town, was shot dead by officers after the assault. No motive has yet been revealed.
President Donald Trump described the incident as “horrendous,” writing on his Truth Social platform that it “appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America.”
Photos from the incidence showed emergency responders rushing people out on stretchers while thick black smoke poured from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township.
Local police chief William Renye told reporters the suspect rammed his car through the church’s front doors before firing an assault rifle at worshippers inside.
