Nigeria Pulls Out of Oscar Race as NOSC Declines to Submit Film for 2026 Awards

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has revealed that no Nigerian film will be submitted for the International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards.

Despite six films being submitted for consideration, the committee came to a conclusion that none met the standard required for global competition.

In a statement, NOSC Chairperson Stephanie Linus highlighted lack of creative and technical intentionality in Nigerian films as the main reason influencing the decision.

She, however, noted the progress made so far and the rising awareness of international benchmarks, while emphasizing the need for more growth in the industry.

“While Nigerian films have undoubtedly recorded significant improvement and a better understanding of IFF standards, there is still a shortfall in creative and technical intentionality that can boost their chances in global awards,” she explained.
