Two teenagers lost their lives, and five others were injured during a shooting that occurred on Tuesday in the Westbury area of Johannesburg, according to police reports. Authorities suspect the attack was linked to gang activity.
So far, no arrests have been made, said Gauteng Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili. Early findings reveal that the seven victims, aged between 13 and 19, were allegedly targeted by three members of a rival gang.
According to police, the group of teenagers was confronted by four suspects on foot, three of whom were armed. The attackers opened fire without warning before fleeing the scene.
The injured victims were quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit has launched a full investigation, working alongside SAPS Forensic Services at the scene. Additionally, District Crime Intelligence officers have been deployed to help track down the gunmen responsible for the attack.
