Davido Appointed Chairman of Osun Sports Trust Fund in Bold Move to Revamp State’s Sports Sector

In a major development for Osun State’s sports sector, Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has been officially appointed chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a key step toward reshaping the future of sports in the state.

The announcement was made by Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, during a courtesy visit by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State chapter, to his office.

According to Adewusi, Davido’s appointment aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s long-term vision to strengthen sports governance, promote youth participation, and attract both local and foreign investment into the sector.

“Governor Adeleke’s administration is dedicated to nurturing a strong sports culture that will make Osun a leading sports hub in Nigeria. The renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is ongoing and will soon reach Olympic standards,” Adewusi stated.

He added that the government is in the final stages of creating the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the coordinating body for sports development, policy formulation, and talent discovery.

Under the new framework, the Osun Sports Trust Fund, chaired by Davido, will provide a channel for private sector participation, ensuring consistent funding for athletes, infrastructure, and youth-focused initiatives.

“The Sports Trust Fund will attract financial backing from philanthropists and sports investors within and outside Osun State. With Davido at the helm, we expect significant interest and investment,” Adewusi noted.

He further highlighted that Davido’s commitment to youth empowerment and his global influence in entertainment make him the ideal choice for the role. The news of his appointment has already stirred excitement across the state’s sports community.

“Davido accepted the role immediately. His leadership will inspire confidence, draw sponsorship, and bring international attention to Osun’s sports development,” Adewusi added.

The Osun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to complete the renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, promising that once finished, the upgraded arena will host both national and international sporting events, marking a new era for sports in the state.
