Al Ahly reinforced its supremacy in Egyptian football on Sunday with a commanding 2-0 win over longtime rivals Zamalek in the Super Cup final.
In front of 40,000 fans at the Mohamed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the first goal arrived in the 44th minute. Ahmed Zizo initiated the play, setting up Achraf Bencharki to send a low shot past Zamalek’s goalkeeper Mohammed Awad.
The second goal came in the 72nd minute when Taher Mohamed Taher delivered a precise assist to Marwan Attia, who fired a powerful shot into the net.
Just seven minutes later, Seifeddine Jaziri managed to score, but the goal was ruled out due to a handball earlier in the move.
This victory marks Al Ahly’s fifth consecutive National Super Cup title and the sixteenth in the club’s history. It also secures Danish coach Jess Thorup his first trophy with the team, only a month into his tenure.
