A specialized Saudi medical team has successfully completed the separation of Jamaican conjoined twins Azaria and Azura Elson at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital, marking a major achievement for the Kingdom’s internationally acclaimed conjoined twins program.
The intricate procedure was carried out by the Saudi Program for Conjoined Twins using a staged approach, bringing together consultants, specialists, nurses, and technicians from various disciplines.
The multidisciplinary team included experts in anesthesia, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and other supporting specialties, all working in close coordination to ensure the operation’s success.
Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, led the medical team and expressed deep gratitude to Saudi leadership for their backing.
“We congratulate the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Highness the Crown Prince, and the Saudi people, as well as the Jamaican people on this successful operation,” he said, emphasizing the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting children worldwide with complex medical challenges and its prominent role in conjoined twin separations globally.
The twins’ family expressed sincere appreciation to the Kingdom, its government, and its people for the warm welcome and generous hospitality throughout their stay.
