Children often dream of changing the world someday, but Sarah Njoroge, a 10-year-old girl from Kenya, chose to start now. Growing up in a small village outside Nakuru, Sarah loved reading more than anything. But she noticed something heartbreaking, many children around her had never owned a single book. Their homes had no reading materials, and their school had only a few old textbooks shared among dozens of students.
Sarah believed every child deserved the joy of reading, so she began collecting old books from neighbors, teachers, and families in nearby towns. She cleaned them, packed them neatly, and started a small reading corner under a mango tree in her village. At first, only a few children came. But soon, the reading corner grew into a lively gathering place filled with kids eager to learn new words, explore new worlds, and grow their imaginations.
Her simple idea began to spread. Local radio stations featured her story, and donations started coming from across Kenya. With this support, Sarah helped her community build a small children’s mini-library, giving over 300 children access to books they never had before.
Sarah didn’t stop there. She now visits nearby villages to hold reading days, encouraging children to stay in school and learn. Her dream is to make sure every child in rural Kenya has a book of their own.
This young girl’s effort shows that age does not limit impact. With kindness, passion, and determination, Sarah Njoroge proved that even the smallest hands can create big change.
