More than 24.3 billion Rwf will go to government exams in 2025/2026

The National Examinations and School Inspection Agency (NESA) has revealed that the government examinations will cost over 24.3 billion Rwf.

This was reiterated during the presentation of the activities planned in the budget for the next year that will start in July 2025, while the Deputies who are part of the Budget and Public Finance Committee continue to analyze the draft budget for the 2025/2026 financial year.

The Minister of Education, Nsengimana Joseph, indicated that the budget allocated to the ministry he leads and its affiliated institutions will continue to be used to further improve the quality of education.

For the 2025/2026 fiscal year, MINEDUC and its affiliated institutions have been allocated an amount of 248,275,995,503 Frw, which will be used for various activities.

For example, NESA has been allocated more than 17.5 billion Frw this fiscal year, although it is expected to spend more than 24 billion Frw on state examinations.

NESA is responsible for preparing the state examinations for the primary school leaving examination, the general secondary school leaving examination, and the secondary school leaving examination in general education, vocational schools, and technical and vocational schools.

These examinations will require a budget that will be used to prepare them, reach the examiners, and publish the scores.

NESA indicated that preparing the state examinations for the 2025/2026 academic year will cost more than 2.9 billion Frw, printing them will cost more than 4.4 billion Frw, registration activities will cost more than 195 million Frw, and uploading them to the website where they will be conducted will cost 280 million Frw.

There are also examination activities that will cost more than 2.8 billion Frw, the purchase of examination materials will cost more than 3.3 billion Frw, and the purchase of other materials will cost more than 350 million Frw.

It is also expected that the marking of State examinations for the 2024/2025 academic year will cost more than 9.8 billion Frw, the publication of grades and appeals activities are planned for 55 million Frw, while the printing of the ‘A level Certificate’ will cost more than 112 million Frw.

In this budget, NESA indicates that all these activities must be implemented by July 2025.

Other activities that will be carried out include inspection activities, training for education directors at various levels, purchasing computers for education directors in sectors to facilitate school inspections, and purchasing internet for them to use.
