Al-Ahli Defeats Al-Nassr on Penalties to Claim Saudi Super Cup Glory

Al-Ahli defeated Al-Nassr 5–3 in a penalty shootout to lift the Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong after an intense 2–2 draw on Saturday, despite Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 100th goal for the beaten side.

The 40 year old Portugal star opened the scoring in the 40th minute from the penalty spot after Ali Majrashi was penalised for handball, reaching yet another career milestone.

Al-Ahli, this year’s Asian Champions League winners, hit back in first half stoppage time when Franck Kessie slotted past Al-Nassr goalkeeper Bento following a neat pass from new signing Enzo Millot.

Both teams pressed for a decisive goal after the break. Ronaldo forced Edouard Mendy into a strong save with a fierce drive, while Firas Al-Buraikan was denied by the post.

Marcelo Brozovic fired Al-Nassr back in front in the 82nd minute, pouncing on a poor clearance to finish clinically inside the area. But Al-Ahli equalised in the 89th minute through Roger Ibanez, who powered home a header from a Riyad Mahrez corner after Bento misjudged the cross.

In the shootout, Al-Ahli were flawless from the spot, converting all five attempts. Although Ronaldo scored his penalty, Al-Nassr faltered with one miss, gifting the Jeddah club their second Saudi Super Cup triumph.
