Afrobeats superstars Burna Boy and Asake have made headlines in the list of African nominees at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), with each scoring two nominations, a strong achievement to the genre’s growing global influence.
Burna Boy landed nods in Video for Good for Higher and Best Afrobeats for TaTaTa featuring Travis Scott. Meanwhile, Asake bagged two nominations in the Best Afrobeats category for Active with Travis Scott and Get It Right, his seamless collaboration with Tems.
Several other Nigerian stars were also recognized:
