Children Trapped in Starvation and Disease in El-Fasher

In the besieged Sudanese city of el-Fasher, women at the community kitchen sit together in silent desperation.

“Our children are dying before our eyes,” one woman tells the reporters.

“We have no idea what to do. They are innocent, with no link to the army or its paramilitary rival, the Rapid Support Forces. Our suffering is beyond anything you can imagine.”

Food has become so scarce that prices have skyrocketed, money that once fed a family for a week can now barely cover a single meal. International aid agencies have condemned what they call the “deliberate use of starvation as a weapon of war.”

The hunger emergency is made even worse by a surge of cholera sweeping through the overcrowded, small camps sheltering those forced to flee the fighting.
