Egypt Train Derailment Leaves 3 Dead, Over 100 Injured in Matrouh

A deadly train accident struck Matrouh on August 30, claiming three lives and leaving 103 people injured, according to reports from the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

The tragedy began when seven carriages of train No. 1935, en route from Marsa Matrouh to Alexandria, derailed between Fouka and Galal stations following a track subsidence.

The incident happened around 3:30 pm in a desert stretch, with two carriages overturning. Emergency response was fast, as more than 50 ambulances rushed to the scene while hospitals across Matrouh and neighboring regions were put on high alert. By evening, 87 of the injured had received treatment and were discharged.

Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt’s Transport Minister, arrived at the site and ordered a technical committee to investigate the derailment. He stressed that anyone proven responsible would be immediately dismissed.

An emergency task force has been set up to monitor the crisis and ensure proper medical care for the victims, while searches continue to rule out the possibility of additional casualties.
