Authorities in Guinea have rolled back restrictions on journalists by annulling a decree that barred coverage of political party activities.
The country’s media regulator had previously ordered a blackout on parties facing suspension or dissolution by the government.
However, in a statement to AFP on Monday, the head of the communications authority confirmed that the press is now free to report on all political groups, provided they adhere to campaign regulations.
Guinea is set to hold a referendum on September 21, a vote seen as a crucial step toward restoring civilian rule.
The military ousted President Alpha Conde in 2021, and since then, the junta has been accused of clamping down on press freedom in the lead up to the polls.
Just last month, authorities suspended three major opposition parties, including the one led by former President Conde.
