Ivorian presidential candidate Jean-Louis Billon took his campaign to the bustling working-class district of Abobo in Abidjan on Saturday, where he was met with loud cheers from supporters eager for change.
Representing the Democratic Congress (CODE) coalition, Billon shared his plans centered on economic revival, social fairness, and job opportunities for the youth, themes that have struck a chord with many Ivorians.
Supporter Eric Okoi said there are three strong reasons to back Billon. “First, he’s young, the candidate of renewal. Second, he has a social vision that connects with young people, women, and every Ivorian,” Okoi said. “And lastly, with him, we believe in real hope for transforming our society.”
Another supporter, Fabyra Koffi, said she admires how women play a key role in Billon’s development agenda. “That’s what inspired and motivated me to stand with him and join his team. I encourage everyone to choose this candidate because he truly represents our generation,” she added.
Billon’s team said the Abobo rally showed his deep understanding of local challenges and his determination to make purchasing power a core issue in the coming election.
The neighborhood is traditionally a stronghold of incumbent President Alassane Ouattara’s ruling Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), but Billon came with a message aimed directly at young people one of hope, renewal, and leadership for the future.
He urged them to dream bigger and believe in a fresh start for Côte d’Ivoire, promising to guide the nation toward meaningful change.President Ouattara, aged 83, is running for a fourth term in the country’s presidential election, set for October 25, 2025.
