MOROCCO: Al Hoceima Shuts Down Schools as Harsh Weather Hits Northern Morocco

Schools across the northern Moroccan city of Al Hoceima have been ordered to suspend classes as extreme weather continues to sweep through the region.

The announcement, made on Thursday, affects both private and public institutions and is intended to safeguard students, teachers, and school workers from risks linked to worsening weather conditions.

Officials say the suspension will remain until the situation improves.

Meteorologists report heavy rains and strong winds across multiple provinces, increasing fears of flooding, dangerous roads, and travel difficulties. Parents have been advised to keep their children indoors and follow updates from authorities closely.

This closure forms part of broader safety measures introduced across northern Morocco as the country faces another spell of unstable weather, including rainfall, snowfall in high-altitude areas, and dropping temperatures. Emergency services remain on standby to minimize danger and protect the public.

Schools are expected to resume activities once the weather settles and safety checks are completed.
