Radio Lessons Bring Education Back to DR Congo’s Children

In South Kivu province, DR Congo, children are participating in a special radio learning session supported by UNICEF in order to support their learning.

The ongoing conflict in the region has deeply affected the education system, causing setbacks to children’s education. Countless children were forced to drop out of school as they ran from violence alongside their families for safety. Even when some managed to return back, they found that education was still out of reach, due to the impending crisis.

To provide a solution to this, UNICEF and its partners introduced a distance learning programme that delivers lessons which have been pre-recorded through radio broadcasts. This helpful approach allows children who were once left behind to continue their education at their own pace and not only that, but in a safe and supportive environment.

For children in DR Congo, peace remains essential for their wellbeing, as this is a criteria for them to access education without fear
