Rivers Man Arrested for Brutal Attack on Lover After She Rejected His Marriage Proposal

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of 46 year old Abi Baragon for allegedly attacking and stabbing his lover, Orineme Ayanate, multiple times, leaving her with severe injuries.

A shocking video of the incident, which went viral in June 2025, captured the moment the victim cried out for help while bleeding profusely from several stab wounds. According to police reports, the violent assault began after Ayanate allegedly turned down Baragon’s marriage proposal.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed in a statement on Thursday, October 17, that officers from the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters in Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, acted swiftly once the viral clip surfaced. Through intelligence gathering and technical tracking, the suspect was eventually captured on October 13, 2025.

“It was gathered that the suspect’s motive was fueled by anger after the victim rejected his marriage advances upon learning that he was already married with four children,” Iringe-Koko stated. “During questioning, the suspect admitted to attacking the woman with bottles and stabbing her multiple times.”

The police confirmed that Baragon is now in custody, while the victim remains in the hospital receiving treatment. Authorities added that a detailed investigation is underway to uncover all aspects of the case.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the police operatives for their quick action and expressed appreciation to members of the public for providing helpful information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
