A tragic incident has shaken a school community in Russia after a 10-year-old child was stabbed to death by an older student, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Police said they received an emergency report that a student had attacked a school security guard, used pepper spray, and then stabbed a 10-year-old pupil. The child later died from the injuries sustained during the attack.
In a statement shared on Telegram, local police confirmed that the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. The attack took place in Gorki-2, a village located west of Moscow in the Odintsovo district.
Russia’s Investigative Committee, the country’s main investigative authority, identified the suspect as a 15-year-old student. Officials said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
“The cause of the crime is still under investigation,” the committee said, adding that a criminal case has been opened.
Violent attacks in Russian schools were once uncommon, but similar incidents have been recorded more frequently in recent years.
In 2024, a teenage student injured four people with a hammer at a school in Chelyabinsk, a city in southern Russia. In another disturbing case, a 14-year-old girl opened fire inside a school in Bryansk in December 2023, killing a classmate before taking her own life.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over student safety and rising violence in educational institutions across the country.
