Twenty-six cyclists have reported to Team Rwanda’s training camp as preparations intensify for the 2025 CAC Road Cycling African Championships, set to take place in Kenya from November 19 to 23.
Coach Nathan Byukusenge confirmed that a few riders are yet to arrive because they are still in school. The camp is currently underway at the Africa Cycling Center in Musanze District.
Alongside the shortlisted cyclists, those who represented Rwanda in the 2025 UCI Road World Championships have also joined the training squad. The final list of riders to compete in Kenya will be revealed on November 7. The African Championships will feature Elite, Junior, and Under-23 categories for both men and women.
The event will include several race formats: road races, a Team Time Trial Mixed Relay, and Individual Time Trials (ITT). The provisional squad that joined camp on Tuesday, October 28, reflects strong representation in all categories.
The Men’s Elite lineup includes Moise Mugisha and Vainqueur Masengesho of Benediction Club; Shemu Nsengiyumva, Eric Manizabayo, and Patrick Byukusenge of Java Innovotec; Eric Nkundabera of Les Amis Sportifs; Eric Mahoro from Team Amani; and Jeremie Ngendahayo from May Stars.
For the Men’s Under-23 category, the squad features Samuel Niyonkuru (Team Amani), Etienne Tuyizere (Java Innovotec), and Aime Ruhumuriza (May Stars).
The Men’s Junior group comprises Moise Ntirenganya and Pacifique Byusa (Les Amis Sportifs), Jackson Nkurikiyinka (Nyabihu Cycling Club), and Brian Ishimwe (Ndabaga Cycling Team).
The Women’s Elite category includes Xaverine Nirere (Team Amani), Valentine Nzayisenga (Benediction Club), Diane Ingabire (Canyon-SRAM Zandacrypto Generation), and Violette Neza Irakoze (Ridley Racing Team).
In the Women’s Under-23 lineup are Jazilla Mwamikazi, Martha Ntakirutimana, and Charlotte Iragena (Ndabaga Cycling Team), along with Claudette Nyirarukundo (Team Amani).
Rounding out the squad in the Women’s Junior category are Yvonne Masengesho (Ndabaga Cycling Team) and Liliane Uwiringiyimana (Friends of Nature Cycling Team.
The competition officially kicks off on November 20 with the Individual Time Trials (ITT). Women’s junior riders will begin the event with a 14km race, followed by the men’s junior, elite, and U23 categories, each covering 28km.
