On Monday, Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye declared that Africa holds the potential to feed the entire planet.
Speaking at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Dakar, Faye emphasized that the continent has “all it needs” to achieve self sufficiency.
He pointed to Africa’s 65% share of the world’s arable land, its vibrant youth population, and also abundant natural resources. Faye advised African nations to depend on themselves for food security, promoting a solution driven approach across the continent.
He called for major investments and attention in water management, agricultural innovation, local food processing, and stronger intra-African trade. Supporting his point, Rwandan President Paul Kagame explained that Africa must end its reliance on the rest of the world, and become an independent continent.
