A well known South African parliamentarian discharged his firearm to protect himself and two colleagues after they were violently attacked by a gang in Cape Town.
Ian Cameron, accompanied by fellow members of parliament’s police committee Lisa Schickerling and Nicholas Gotsell, was on his way back from an official trip when their vehicle was ambushed in the Philippi township on Tuesday.
The attackers hurled bricks, shattering the car windows and injuring Cameron and Gotsell in the process.
In retaliation, Cameron, who sustained broken teeth in the assault, fired shots, wounding one of the assailants.
According to police, two suspects aged 16 and 18 have been arrested, with investigations underway into attempted murder and attempted hijacking.
