THAILAND: Woman Wakes Up in Coffin Moments Before Cremation

Workers at a Buddhist temple in Thailand were stunned on Sunday after a woman brought in for cremation suddenly began moving inside her coffin. Her brother said she had been bedridden for nearly two years, and when she seemed to stop breathing last week, he believed she had passed away.

He then travelled almost 500 kilometres across the country, taking her to a hospital in Bangkok because she had once said she wanted to donate her organs. But the hospital declined because he did not have an official death certificate. Unsure of what to do next, he went to Wat Rat Prakhong Tham temple on the outskirts of the city, known for offering free cremation services.

As the temple manager was explaining how he should obtain the required paperwork, a faint sound was heard from the casket. They immediately asked for the coffin to be opened.

To everyone’s shock, the 65-year-old woman was still alive. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors found she had extremely low blood sugar, which likely caused her to appear unresponsive. The abbot later announced that the temple would take responsibility for her medical bills.
