Muhazi United assistant coach, Mugiraneza Jean Bapiste ‘Migi’, has been banned from all football-related activities in Rwanda for one year for match-fixing.

Voices circulated on social media after the match between Musanze FC and Kiyovu Sports on March 15, 2025, in which Migi was heard asking defender Shafiq Bakaki to beat them.

In requesting this service, Migi promised the player that he would take him to Kiyovu Sports next season because he will be coaching there.

This led to Migi and the Musanze FC player being summoned by the FERWAFA Ethics Committee on March 22, 2025.

Before appearing before the Committee, however, Migi wrote to the Muhazi United team where he was the Assistant Coach, saying that what happened was not to ask the player to win, but rather to test him before taking him to this Eastern club.

In conducting an investigation, FERWAFA summoned the management of Kiyovu Sports and Musanze FC, the Assistant Coach of this Northern club, Imurora Japhet 'Drogba' and its player Batte Sheif.

Those summoned appeared before the Ethics Commission on April 6, 2025 at the FERWAFA headquarters.

Information IGIHE learned at the time was that Batte Sheif was the one who recorded the audio and went outside when Imurora Japhet's name was mentioned in the Migi na Bakaki interview, where the Muhanzi United Assistant Coach, who was recently suspended due to an ongoing investigation, said: "What can I do for you? And you know I don't like Drogba, you know what he did to me. You also know what he did to you."

The decision of the Ethics Commission IGIHE received on Tuesday states that it "sanctions Mugiraneza Jean Baptiste alias Migi by suspending him from participating in any football-related activity and banning him from all football grounds in Rwanda for a period equivalent to one (1) year and paying a fine of one hundred thousand (100,000) Rwandan francs from the date of notification of the decision."

The Commission reminded that “anyone who is not satisfied with this decision has the right to appeal within two (2) days of being notified.”

On the other hand, one of the leaders of the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) told IGIHE that it is not over yet, but they expect the Migi case to be concluded this week.

The FERWAFA Secretariat is the one who announces the decisions taken by the commissions of this Association and is the one who calls all those who attend.
