The 2024 edition of the Kids Innovation Challenge, organized by The Destiny Trust, celebrated young Nigerian innovators competing with technology-based solutions aimed at addressing global social challenges. The event, held on September 14 at Radisson Blu in Lagos, featured various innovative projects, with the top prize going to Blessing Adetona, the designer of the Naija Biobag. His invention is aimed at tackling plastic pollution, deforestation, and food waste.
Adetona's biobag stood out among ten finalists, securing him a cash prize of N1 million. The competition was judged by a panel of leading tech experts, who assessed the originality, scalability, and social impact of the ideas presented. Other standout groups included Tech Fusion Tribe, which earned second place with their waste management platform, and GRF Group, recognized for creating a smart incinerator that converts waste to energy.
The Kids Innovation Challenge provides a platform for young talents across Nigeria to showcase their skills and develop solutions to real-world problems, demonstrating the potential of Nigerian children to drive future innovations despite the challenges they face.
