Caritas Rwanda, affiliated to the Catholic Church, announced that between 2020 and 2024 it collected 686,083,573 Frw to help the needy.
The report of this organization shows that more than 1,000,000 people have given this money to continue the mission of improving the welfare of Rwandans.
This report shows that 341,217 people, including young birth mothers, the disabled, street children, prisoners and the elderly, received assistance during these years.
Among them are more than 100 thousand children who have been helped to go to primary, secondary and vocational schools, and 161,632 farmers who have been helped to develop agriculture that protects the environment and produces higher yields.
It also includes 35,374 young people who have been trained in light and technical, technological and creative jobs and 5,222 households of the needy, consisting of more than 25,000 people, who have been transformed after receiving capital.
There are 3,342 flood-affected families helped by Caritas Rwanda to return to normal life, and 3,876 savings and loan associations were established and supported.
Françoise Dukuzemariya, one of the young people developed by Caritas Rwanda, expressed how she has come from and where she is now, through the profession of making bags.
He said, "It has helped us a lot, it has helped the development of our families. The help of Caritas has changed our lives, now we use technology to save money and we also make modern bags and shoes."
When Caritas Rwanda was in a ceremony to celebrate its achievements, Bishop Anaclet Mwumwaneza explained that its assistance is provided in three categories: helping the needy, improving the lives of the people and taking care of their health.
"We will continue to find new ways to reach out to the many people who are very poor and unreached and have limited resources," Bishop Mwanmwaneza said.
Bishop Pierre Cibamba of Caritas Africa praised the role of Caritas Rwanda, showing that it is a good example of the mission of the Catholic Church, which aims to help those in need.
He said, "Caritas Rwanda is a good example of the mission of the Church, which aims to help those in trouble to regain confidence in life."
The director of the National Agency for Supporting Development Activities at Local Levels (LODA), Claudine Nyinawagaga, emphasized that Caritas helps the State in fighting poverty and promoting development.
Nyinawagaga praised the way Caritas Rwanda works with the local authorities in choosing the beneficiaries, avoiding giving support in an irregular way.
