Charles Phillips and Holly Walker, a couple from Michigan, have a unique love story that began at Aldi, a discount grocery store. Their first date was a visit to Aldi, where they took a selfie in the Aldi Finds aisle. Nine months later, they got engaged and decided to share the news in the Aldi Aisle of Shame Facebook group.
To their surprise, Aldi took notice of their post and offered to host a candlelit dinner for the couple in their local store. They were treated to a four-course meal, complete with a waiter, and enjoyed dishes such as grilled asparagus, arugula salad, and short rib ragout.
The couple's engagement dinner photos went viral, with their Facebook post receiving 28,000 likes and Aldi's Instagram post generating over 27,000 likes. While they haven't set a wedding date yet, they're enjoying their engagement and the attention their love story has received.
Aldi has been a part of their relationship from the start, and they've shared photos of their German meals, Valentine's Day finds, and pumpkin spice goodies from the store. When asked if they plan to get married in an Aldi, Walker joked, "Sooooo…. Aldi, want to throw us a wedding??"
This isn't the first time Aldi has been involved in a couple's marriage story. In 2022, the chain hosted a wedding for another couple, Michael and Jessica Hurd, among the Mama Cozzi's pizzas and Barissimo coffee.
Aldi's involvement in these love stories has shown that the grocery store is more than just a place to shop for food – it's where memories are made. As the company representative said, "ALDI isn’t just a grocery store — it’s where memories are made."
