A science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) event for primary school children in the Isle of Man has been postponed because of transport issues caused by a shortage of bus drivers.
The fourth annual STEMFest, which involves all of the island’s primary school students, was originally scheduled for 23 and 24 October at the Villa Marina. However, the Department for Enterprise (DfE) announced that significant logistical challenges meant that not all schools could attend, leading to the decision to reschedule the event.
The island has been facing disruptions to its public bus services due to a lack of qualified drivers, with some Sunday services also being temporarily reduced.
The STEMFest event aims to inspire children to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It was set to feature over 30 local organizations with interactive exhibits showcasing their sectors.
Despite the "regrettable" decision, the DfE stated that the event would be rescheduled to ensure full participation from all schools.
