The employees of the University of Rwanda asked the Prime Minister that their salaries be increased They said it to him during the graduation ceremony for over eight thousand students who graduated, and he also participated, on October 25, 2024.
Prof. David Tuyishime, a professor who spoke on behalf of his colleagues at the University of Rwanda, told the Prime Minister that they are happy that the problems they have been facing have been resolved, but that they are now worried about the lack of experienced and competent staff.
He said, "While we are fighting to raise the University of Rwanda to a higher level, there are problems that we are facing, the most difficult of which is that the experts with experience and sufficient training that we have would leave us.
We will not be able to reach where we want to go.

Yunzemo said, "This is due to various reasons, including salaries and other awards that are out of date, because it has been a long time since they were added to the University of Rwanda, while living conditions are becoming more and more expensive. We ask the Government of Rwanda to take care of this issue ."
The Prime Minister said that reforms in the University have started and will continue.
He said, "As you know, at the beginning of this year the reforms of the University of Rwanda were announced, which had been planned for some time, but were approved by the Cabinet meeting at the beginning of this year.
Today we are happy that some of them were the provisions of those reforms have begun to be implemented, and they are still being implemented."
He added, "There are other things that will be done, and all of you will continue to be involved, because the changes we want in the University will benefit all of us, the University, its employees, teachers, and the country in general.
It is on the 10th grade that the University of Rwanda awards degrees to students who have graduated from it. The recipients on October 25, 2024 are eight thousand and 68, including 3,109 females and 4,959 males.
