A man in camouflage, with a long beard concealed by a mask, has been evading capture in New Zealand for three years along with his three children, Ember, Maverick, and Jayda, aged 8, 9, and 11. The family vanished in December 2021 during a tumultuous custody dispute, prompting police searches that have yet to locate them.

Initially wanted for failing to appear in court, the fugitive, Thomas Callam Phillips, now faces more serious charges, including allegations of robbing a bank in May 2023 with an unidentified female accomplice. Authorities have deployed search teams, helicopters, and planes in hopes of finding them, but recent sightings have provided little information.

The latest sighting, believed to be the first of all three children since their disappearance, was reported by a teenager who spotted four individuals carrying backpacks on private property in Marokopa. The sighting has fueled public interest and concern about their welfare.

Former police detective Lance Burdett expressed surprise that they have not been found, especially given the frequency of sightings in a relatively small area. Max Baxter, the local mayor, suggested that Phillips is likely receiving assistance from supporters who believe he is acting in the best interest of his children.

The rugged landscape of New Zealand's North Island poses challenges for search efforts, with dense forests and steep hills that make it easy to hide. Phillips, who has family in the area, has previously gone missing with the children, prompting extensive searches that ended without finding them.

In an emotional appeal, the children's mother, Cat, has urged the public for help in locating her children. She expressed concern for their well-being, particularly noting Ember’s asthma condition, which requires medical attention that is not accessible in the wilderness. Cat's older daughter, Jubilee, has also shared her fears for the children's safety, expressing that they may be traumatized and unaware that their family is searching for them.

In addition to hiding from authorities, there are fears that Phillips may be encouraging his children to participate in criminal activities, evidenced by a bank robbery incident. Authorities are now investigating Phillips for various charges, including robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Despite police efforts and a recent call for community assistance, the search has generated mixed reactions. Some locals believe Phillips should surrender the children, while others defend his actions as a father. The mayor highlighted concerns that inexperienced individuals attempting to assist in the search could get lost in the treacherous terrain.

As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for the safe return of the missing children. Cat's video appeal emphasized the severity of the situation, labeling Phillips' actions as child neglect and endangerment, urging anyone with information to come forward.
