Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State announced that over 100,000 school uniforms, bags, sandals, and other items will soon be distributed to pupils and students across the state. This initiative is part of his commitment to enhancing free education for the younger generation.
Speaking at a meeting with Principals and Head Teachers in Jalingo, the governor reaffirmed his administration's dedication to the free education policy. He also mentioned plans to increase the running costs for schools to improve their performance.
Governor Kefas highlighted ongoing efforts with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to enhance the security of schools, ensuring a safer learning environment. He further promised that salary arrears for primary school teachers would be settled by December 2024.
Additionally, the governor instructed the State Ministry of Education to form a committee to devise strategies for promoting deserving teachers.
The Commissioner for Education, Augustina Godwin, praised the governor’s commitment, noting that Taraba has progressed from being educationally disadvantaged to competing at the national level. She attributed the rise in school enrollment to the free and compulsory education policy and called for the promotion of teachers to boost their morale.
