In a bold move to combat crime in Lagos, newly-appointed Commissioner of Police Ishola Olanrewaju has declared an all-out war on criminal activities in the state. At his inaugural media briefing on Wednesday, Olanrewaju paraded 98 suspected criminals and outlined a proactive strategy to dismantle criminal networks across Lagos.
Olanrewaju's approach includes partnering with road transport unions to tackle "one-chance" robberies. To ensure public safety, all commercial buses will be tagged and easily identifiable, allowing passengers to know exactly which bus they're boarding. This initiative is crucial in ensuring public safety, Olanrewaju emphasized.
The results of coordinated police operations have already rattled Lagos' criminal underworld, leading to the arrest of suspects involved in various crimes, including armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and drug trafficking. Significant seizures were made, including weapons, narcotics, stolen goods, firearms, ammunition, $402 in cash, and 39 bags of stolen rice. These operations highlight the extensive reach of organized crime into everyday life.
Olanrewaju's determination to eradicate crime in Lagos is a welcome move for the state's residents. With his proactive approach and commitment to public safety, Lagos can look forward to a safer and more secure environment.
