On the evening of Tuesday, October 29, Madam Jeannette Kagame arrived in Doha, Qatar, where she participated in an international conference on the development of the family known as the International Year of the Family.
The meeting, held for the 30th time, began on Wednesday, October 30 to 31, 2024, and is being held in the building of the Qatar National Convention Center.
It was attended by more than 2,000 people including decision-makers, researchers, youth and other community leaders from more than 80 countries.
Among others who attended the meeting on the Rwandan side, there was the Minister of Equality and Community Development, Uwimana Consolée.
It is expected that Mrs. Jeannette Kagame will take part in the discussion called 'Breaking the Cycle: Overcoming the Poverty Trap' which will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
This discussion will return to the relationship between the problems facing the family and poverty. In particular, in this article, we will discuss the consequences of child marriage, the reasons why families involve children in young marriages, the measures put in place to deal with that problem, etc.
The conference will also discuss topics including technological change in the world, immigration, climate change, population growth and the impact it has on community development.
Mrs. Jeannette Kagame expressed that this meeting is in line with the development policy that Rwanda is prioritizing.
He said, “The theme of this conference is in line with Rwanda's family-based development plan. We are happy to attend to discuss and learn from each other as international cooperation is essential to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
" Dr. Sherifa Noman Al-Emadi, Director of the 'Doha International Family Institute' which also organized this meeting, thanked Mrs. Jeannette Kagame for participating, showing that it is important to be with her in the meeting to share with others the methods used to develop the family in Rwanda.
The International Year of the Family is a conference launched by the United Nations in 1994, with the aim of strengthening the family as the basis of society around the world, and also putting forward programs aimed at its development.
Through the founder of the Imbuto Foundation, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame prioritized programs aimed at developing the community including education, health and welfare and all of them focus on those from underprivileged families.
In the 23 years that Imbuto Foundation has been established, it has helped to educate children from poor families and girls who have been pregnant at a young age, and conducted various campaigns against teenage pregnancies and domestic violence.
This organization also has various programs in education, health, building the capacity of the youth and providing various services such as family planning, HIV testing, etc. Imbuto Foundation has also contributed to the development of the health sector in Rwanda, providing equipment and training for health advisers, assisting in ECD programs, etc.
