An International Conference on Girl Child Education, organized by the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), is set to take place from October 10-11, 2024, at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Themed "Girl Child Empowerment Through Quality Education," the event coincides with the International Day of the Girl Child. Key initiatives include the launch of the Girl Child Education Volunteers’ Advocates (GICEVA) and the unveiling of the Face of the Girl Child Ambassadors. These efforts aim to strengthen advocacy, rally volunteers, and solidify the commitment of state education commissioners to support girl child education up to the Senior Secondary School level.
The GICEVA initiative will engage volunteers to promote girl child education across Nigeria, while the Face of the Girl Child Ambassadors, composed of top graduates, will advocate for educational empowerment in their states. The conference will also feature a signing ceremony where state education commissioners will commit to enhancing girl child education through a formal Declaration.
The two-day event will include panel discussions, workshops, and keynote addresses from education experts and government officials, highlighting the importance of girl child education. The anticipated outcomes include stronger advocacy, increased volunteer participation, and enhanced collaboration between government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to ensure that every girl in Nigeria has access to quality education.
