Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, addressed a gathering of industry leaders and government officials during the 3rd German-African Forum on Vocational Training and Education in Berlin.

During his speech, Professor Mamman highlighted the vital role public-private partnerships play in developing the skills of Africa’s youth, a key factor in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. He presented Nigeria’s DOTS policy as a significant step in the country’s educational reform efforts.

The DOTS policy is designed to transform Nigeria’s education system by focusing on data-driven decision-making. This allows the government to create and implement effective, evidence-based policies. One of the key aspects of the policy is addressing the needs of out-of-school children by providing training that prepares them for future opportunities. Additionally, DOTS emphasizes teacher development, empowering educators to become agents of change in their communities.

The initiative also prioritizes skills acquisition at all levels of education, aiming to improve employability and promote entrepreneurship. The policy supports Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which provides essential practical skills for the workforce.

Professor Mamman underscored the importance of collaboration between African nations and German industries, particularly in education technology and bridging the skills gap in key sectors. He stressed that partnerships between governments, industries, and educational institutions are crucial for accelerating skills development and driving sustainable growth across Africa.
