Pinewood Studios, a renowned film and television production facility in Buckinghamshire, has announced the closure of its television production department, which has hosted popular shows such as RuPaul's Drag Race UK and Taskmaster. The studio has been used for various movie productions, including James Bond, Marvel, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
The closure is a result of an internal review, and the studio's owner has stated that they are proud of the work the TV team has delivered over the years. Productions already booked for 2024 and 2025 will not be affected by the closure, and TV productions at other Pinewood sites will continue as usual.
The site has offered three fully-equipped TV studios for the creation of sitcoms, panel shows, and live broadcasts, and has been used to film other popular shows such as Red Dwarf, Would I Lie To You, and Gordon Ramsey's Future Food Stars. Pinewood is consulting with staff affected by the closure.
In recent years, Disney and Netflix have signed deals to lease stages at Pinewood Studios, highlighting the studio's importance in the film and television industry. The closure of the television production department is a significant development in the UK's television production landscape.
