The National Health Center (RBC) has been given a grant of 39 motorcycles that will help psychiatrists, especially in rural areas, to fulfill their duties.
It is a grant given on November 19, 2024 by the Interpeace non-profit organization in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Rwanda, which will be delivered to five selected areas.
In the ceremony of handing over these motorcycles to RBC, the Director of Interpeace in Rwanda, Frank Kayitare, said that they decided to donate motorcycles in order to help health institutions.
He said, "We found that the capacity of health centers to reach people is insufficient because they don't have access to them, so we need the capacity to help those in charge of reaching the people so they can teach them, and be tested to see if anyone with a problem can be identified early and caught."
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Director at the Swedish Embassy in Rwanda, Ms. Martina Fors Mohlin said that she was happy with this good work and that they are ready to continue working with Rwanda in such activities.
The Chief Financial Officer of RBC, Uwayo Theo Principe, said that it is a great grant and will help various healthcare institutions and the community in general. He went on to say that it will be easier for those who care about the health of the people to reach them easily in the process of talking to them, measuring them and taking care of them in different ways.
The Director General of Shyira Hospital, Nyabihu District, Dr. Mukantwaza Pierrette said that she is grateful for the support they have received and that it will help them in a big way.
He said, "Nyabihu District usually has high mountains, so that the people where they live do not have access roads for cars, you know that motorcycles pass everywhere possible, so when those people living in those mountains do not have good roads, it used to be difficult for us to reach them in order to provide services." This donation of motorbikes along with their accessories such as helmets, covered by three months insurance, will be delivered to the districts of Musanze, Ngoma, Nyabihu, Nyagatare and Nyamagabe.
These motorbikes are accompanied by various other equipment that will help doctors such as computers, all of which are worth more than 200 million Frw.
