The United Nations Youth Association Nigeria (UNYA-NG) marked the 2024 International Day of Peace with a summit in Abuja, focusing on the importance of children's education for building a better society. This year's theme, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” aligns with the global call for peace and non-violence, commemorated annually on September 21.

During the summit, the President of UNYA-NG highlighted the crucial role of education, dialogue, and collaboration in fostering peace. He stressed that instilling peaceful values in the younger generation is essential for a more harmonious future.

The guest speaker, Engr. Chikezie Ogaziechi, addressed the challenge of inequality as a major barrier to peace in Nigeria, pointing to the country's large population of out-of-school children. He warned that without access to education, these children could become a threat to future peace and stability, urging the government to prioritize educational access.

A key moment during the event was the presentation of a "Peace Ambassador" award to Engr. Ogaziechi, recognizing his humanitarian efforts, particularly his work in providing scholarships to underprivileged children, which plays a vital role in fostering peace through education.

The summit concluded with a call for citizens to actively promote peace in Nigeria and beyond, marking the 25th anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s Declaration on a Culture of Peace.
