The wife of President Evariste Ndayishimiye
of Burundi, Angeline Ndayubaha, responded to those who debated her clothes,
saying that dressing well is something that has characterized her since she was
young.
I respect that he is seen wearing expensive
clothes that are made of cotton, and he wears clothes made by the world's
biggest brands like Louis Vuitton and others.
The debate on his clothes started after
President Ndayishimiye said that Africans should not wear products made by
factories outside of Africa, but should develop their own.
President Ndayishimiye told the youth on
December 14, 2023: "Don't be proud to wear Gucci, Louis Vuitton.
Appreciate Africa and what it does. Africa's development will not come from
anywhere else because what you see in white people also came from Africa.
In an interview on Umukubito TV channel,
Angeline explained that dressing well was not something she learned when her
husband started to lead Burundi in June 2020, but that she also dressed well in
the past.
He said: "I always hear people say,
'They dress him, what do they do!' So Gaël, looking at those old photos, do you
think I dressed badly?" You'll see, the aka-bazin I wore and that's how it
was in the forest. And I bought it there in the Bujumbura market.”
Angelina went on to explain, "It's not
something that comes when you're the wife of the Head of the Nation, it's about
the situation you're in, you're trying to make yourself happy, no one is
looking at you, you're being treated like 'I'm poor, I'm in a difficult life',
things it's all in the mind.”
